Sam Vonumu is a highly experienced and passionate traveller. He converted his travel passion into a profession and became a certified travel consultant. We have known Sam for about 20 years and we always ask him before we plan any of our vacations and trips. Travelling with Sam is a luxurious experience, with a very reasonable price. About three years ago, we visited Trinidad and Tobago with Sam. Sam took care of everything for us, right from booking the tickets, hotels, and the entire itinerary. We visited Panama as well in addition to Trinidad and Tobago. The trip was a memorable experience. We stayed in a five star hotel, thoroughly enjoying the one week vacation by going to amazing beaches, naturally beautiful places, mountains and extraordinary restaurants – all at a middle class price! Sam planned our entire trip to Europe this year and guided us through all the details. We couldn’t cover so many places within a span of three and half days without Sam’s help and guidance.

It was with mixed feelings of apprehension and excitement
that we (my wife, daughter, and I) said yes to Sam, Rena, and Stella Vonumu
inviting us to join them on their 3day summer vacation to Iceland. The tickets
were affordable since we still had 4 months before our vacation in June. We
were able to research and get great deals on our accommodation and rental car
(pick a 4×4). Since we were US passport holders the visa was on arrival. With a
US driver’s license, we were able to rent a car that was available for pick up
close to the airport. The rental guys are really friendly. We arrived at the
start of the day so our first stop was to visit Thingvellir National Park. On
our drive there we noticed something different……… the landscape in the
countryside was just volcanic rock formations and grass but no trees. At
Thingvellir you can visit the Ancient National Parliament and also see the continental
drift between the North American and Eurasian Plates evident by the many cracks
or faults. Also, we got to see the first of the many picturesque waterfalls.
The blue hue of the pure glacier waterfalls is a sight to behold in person.
The next stop was The Great Geysir which is one of the many
natural phenomena in Iceland. It feels like you are on a different planet. Nice
place to get great pics. The restaurant buffet was good and the salad was the
freshest that we’d ever eaten. The gift shop is worth a visit. Close by is the
Gulfoss one of the famous waterfalls in Iceland. You can get some great pics

Since the Sunrise is at around 3 am and sunsets around
midnight during summer we were cautioned by the rental guys to watch the time
and pull over to rest for the “night” which is pretty much twilight. Sam picked
Heradsskolinn Historic Guest House, Laugarvatn, to spend our first night in
Iceland. In our experience, they had the
best/most comfortable bed we’d ever slept on in any travel accommodation. After a good rest breakfast and pics at the
lake behind the hotel, we headed to a less-known and visited hot spring in the
middle of nowhere at Hruni. We preferred this over the famous Blue Lagoon. For
lunch, we stopped at Kaffi-Sel restaurant. Vegan options were fantastic.
We drove back to Reykjavik for a comfortable good night’s
rest at Atlantic Apartments. The next morning we did the touristy
whale-watching boat ride from the harbor. We had the privilege to have 4
beautiful whale sightings and one whale breach the water. We were impressed
with the food in Iceland. The vegan options are available in almost every
restaurant…….even at a seafood restaurant at the harbor. A couple of hours’
drive to the Skogafoss Waterfalls is definitely worth the drive. The pics are
beyond amazing.
